OUR STORY

Hi I'm XUAN, founder of EAT MALA.

“MALA,” which means “tingling and spicy” in Chinese, captures the essence of the flavours from my hometown of Chongqing.

Our homemade chilli oil
I'm Sarah Liu, founder of Out There Kitchen

I grew up in Chongqing, the spicy food capital of China. You might not be familiar with it, but this is the birthplace of spicy hot pot! Chongqing is home to 30 million people—three times the size of London! 😲

When I relocated to the UK as a teenager and a spicy food lover, I was amazed to find out many of the flavours I had grown up with were unavailable here.

At EAT MALA, we're excited to bring authentic spicy Chinese condiments to the UK, offering a rich blend of savoury umami with a perfect balance of heat and tang.

Our signature crispy chilli oil is handmade in small batches using a unique mix of Chinese chillies, peppercorns and spices inspired by some of the iconic dishes from Chongqing such as spicy Chongqing noodles, spicy and tingling wontons.

As a passionate foodie for diverse cuisines and experiences from living in both London and Chongqing, I wanted to modernise our cherished family recipe, staying true to the bold, fiery flavours of Chongqing while making it versatile enough to compliment other international dishes.

Simply use it as a finishing sauce or incorporate it into your cooking — stir well and drizzle over everything from noodles and rice to stir-fries, pasta, pizza, salads, eggs on toast, steak, and roasted meats and vegetables.

Stay tuned for pop-up opening dates and location, we can't wait for you to experience these unforgettable flavours!

Lots of chilli love,

XUAN
